Things I'm fond of right now

This is just a random post, probably inspired more by hormones than any logical train of thought.  It's a post just letting you know what things my eye looks kindly upon at the current time.

Olives.  I love olives.  I know I normally like olives, but recently I've caught myself devouring them straight from the jar.  It's disturbing.

Old fashioned dye based Easter Eggs.  I grew up using food coloring and vinegar.  It makes vividly beautiful bright shades of eggs.  I'm aware that those little kits at the grocery store may allow you to draw on a pattern with a special marker, (a pattern that then rubs off later anyway by the way) or include stickers of your favorite cartoon characters.  I'm aware of that.  But the way I see it, kids color with markers and stickers every day of the year.  Why not do something different?

Nail Files.  I'm constantly in need of them lately.  I feel like I file my nails at least daily.  It might be the prenatal vitamins making them grow so quickly.  I'm unsure.  But I do know that they catch constantly and although I enjoy painting my nails, etc. I partake in a lot of activities that make them inconvenient.  So the file is my friend right now.  Keeps the growth under control.

Feather Pillows.  Who am I kidding?  I've always loved feather pillows.  I have the hardest time sleeping on those polyester filled pillows.  I literally will travel with my own pillow to the fanciest of hotels, just in case they don't offer real feather pillows.  And now it's become even more vital.  I not only need them for sleep, but I also sleep with them piled around me.  (Poor Mike, I'm surprised he has room on the bed)  I have one against my belly to quell the nausea at night.  I sleep with another between my knees to keep my hips straight.  And that's not even counting the fluffy feathery nest that I rest my head on.

Shampoo that doesn't make me itch.  Back in the fall (as in 2009) I went to the salon.  I loved the smell and feel of the shampoo that the beautician washed my hair with.  So I bought a bottle.  It was $32.  And it was a HUGE bottle.  We're talking over a gallon I think.  Huge.  About a week into using it I realized it makes me itch a little.  Not unbearably.  And not on my scalp.  But it makes my hairline and neck a little irritated.  BUT.  I'm a thrifty sort.  So I couldn't bring myself to get rid of it.  I've used it ever since.  And the stinking bottle will.not.run.out.  I've only alternated out with Mike's shampoo and a homemade concoction that I use a few times for a break... I've used it all.  This might be the week though.  It looks as if I might run out this week.  Praise the Lord.  I will be buying a shampoo that I know does not make me itch.  (by the way, considering how long the bottle lasted.. I think it was a pretty good deal, lol!)

Having a baby girl who tells me that she loves me spontaneously.  It's fabulous.

The comforting knowledge that chocolate seems to be the one food that does not make me nauseated.  It's not a promise, but usually if you hand me chocolate I will not throw up on you.

And last but not least, Hand Sanitizer.  I know that there are many people who think that hand sanitizer is bad because it keeps a person from building an immunity.  I get that, I guess.  But I'll tell you that when there are two little people throwing up like crazy from the stomach bug, and one pregnant mama who throws up enough on her own time.... it's nice to be able to have a little extra reassurance that if I accidently bite a fingernail in a moment of hormonal nervous breakdown, I might not transmit their germs into my mouth.

Oh.  The sanitizer is also nice to have in my purse after I shake hands with the visiting Executive at work, after watching him pick his nose and then stick his hand out at me.  Um.  Gross.  (And yes, I washed my hands asap after that too but the sanitizer was a momentary feeling of cleanliness before I could get to a sink.)

And that concludes my list.  I'm sure there are a few things I'm missing but these are at the top of my list.
